Minimum Requirements
While there are more expectations than listed here, these are the essential minimum requirements to be considered for employment with the Sangamon County VAC per Illinois State Law and our own Bylaws.
- Honorably discharged Veteran of military service.
- United States citizen.
- At least 18 years of age.
- Posses a valid IL state drivers license.
- Be able to pass an FBI background check (may not posses any felony convictions).
Summary of Functions
The general function of this position is to assist in the planning and/or supervision of the administrative functions of the VAC office. This position performs and supervises general and specialized clerical and/or technical operations. Basic proficiencies required include; knowledge of Microsoft Office, performing research via the internet, managing social media accounts, basic accounting tasks, and basic graphics editing. An aptitude towards legal and medical knowledge is preferential while a willingness to learn the basics of these fields is required.
Work Hours
The VAC observes a minimum of 13 paid holidays, paid vacation, paid personal days, paid sick leave, and paid medical appointment time. The standard work week is Monday – Friday, 830am to 430pm. You are allowed flexible breaks throughout the day and a 1 hour lunch break from 12-1pm.
Compensation
Successful candidates will have the opportunity to advance to the position of Executive Administrative Assistant where they will supervise non-VSO staff and receive a healthy pay increase. Provisions in starting salary are made to account for candidates with substantial relevant work history and/or degrees. Annual cost-of-living and performance raises are standard.
Admin. Asst. starting salary – $31k-$38k
Exec. Admin Asst. starting salary – $41k-$49k
